Oxide films on the object's surface interfere with the measurement of contact resistance. To eliminate this effect the IEC 62271-1 requires measuring the resistance of a high-voltage circuit breaker's main circuit with a current ranging from 50 A to the nominal value. Foreign circuit breakers usually recommend a test current of 100 A or 200 A.
MIKO-21M measures resistance using a test current of up to 200 A, automatically selecting it depending on the object’s resistance.
Additionally, the current can be set manually by selecting it from a set of preset values.
The device is programmed with 3 modes for starting the measurement:
Single is started once the cable clamps are contacted to the tested object and followed by pressing the START button.
Periodic is used for measurements at specified intervals. After pressing the START button, the device automatically begins taking measurements at the set interval without user intervention. This mode is useful when the user’s hands are occupied with connecting cables, or when it is necessary to monitor how parameters change over time.
Periodic circuit
combines automatic activation with periodic operation upon closure of the tested circuit. After pressing the START button, the device waits for the contacts to close in order to start the measurement. The measurements continue until the user stops the process.
SKB EP micro-ohmmeters enable to measure contact resistance in high-voltage circuit breakers with built-in CT using special automatic modes:
CT eco mode enables to operate measurements in the circuits with CT with minimal battery power consumption;
CT max mode enables to operate measurement in the circuits with CT using 100 A or 200 A test current (set by a user) without saving battery power.
The user can add or remove nominal values for the measured object. Once the measured value exceeds the nominal value, the device emits a warning signal and displays an indication that the reading is above/below the set value.
MIKO-21M is equipped with a built-in rechargeable battery, which enhances its mobility and ease of use. The built-in battery ensures continuous operation throughout the entire workday without recharging, even across a large area of a substation or workshop. An optional battery pack allows users to extend the operating time and replace the battery once the main battery has reached the end of its service life.
MIKO-21M features a high-brightness color graphic touch-screen and an intuitive interface for easy use.
Special PC software (currently under development) allows users to control the device and transfer measurement results via USB.
To facilitate connection to the object, test cables of various lengths and with different types of clamps and attachment devices have been developed:
Test set with 200 A Kelvin clamp test cable 2 x 2 m (standard complete set) for high-voltage circuit breakers rated up to 10 kV;
Test set with 200 A Kelvin double hand spike test cable 2 x 1.5 m, for measurements in busbars and arc-extinguish chambers;
Test set with 200 A Kelvin C-clamp test cable 2 x 4.5 m / 6 m for circuit breakers rated from 10 kV to 220 kV;
Test set with various types of clamps – 200 A Kelvin clamp and 200 A Kelvin C-clamp – length 3 m, 6 m, and 9 m for circuit breakers rated from 220 kV to 750 kV.
The operating temperature range from -20 °C to +55 °C allows the device to operate in harsh weather conditions while providing the stated accuracy of results.

Manipulating rod is designed for test cables connection from the ground or from the tank cover to the bushings of high-voltage circuit breakers, and to the structural elements of high-voltage disconnecting switches and earthing devices, without the use of ladders or elevated platforms.
The manipulating rod is completed with special extension cables 3.3 m. There is a Kelvin clamp with current and potential contacts to connect to the object on one side, and a contact pad on the other side. The device test cable is connected to the contact pad from the ground or a tank cover.
