PKV/М7 is designed for measuring characteristics of SF6, oil, magnetic-type and vacuum high-voltage circuit breaker of all types and manufactures (such as ABB, AREVA, ALSTOM, SIEMENS etc.), and of isolators and short-circuiting devices.

Additionally, PKV / M7 allows you to register instantaneous values ​​of currents and voltages of control electromagnets.

PKV/M7 instrument is complete with attachment devices for the installation of measuring transducers on all types of Russian- and foreign-manufactured (ABB, AREVA, ALSTOM, SIEMENS, etc.) high-voltage circuit breakers.

Adaptability of the instrument involves designing of transducer attachments to the circuit breakers and receiving of transfer function of movement from the shaft to the cross-arm. Transfer functions of kinematic chains of all circuit breakers are stored in the memory of the instrument. Adaptation work began with the first produced model of the instrument (PKV/М1) in 1995 and continues to this day.

For example, in similar devices, a shorter time range does not allow testing circuit breakers in complex cycles.

There are many nuances when taking measurements on circuit breakers.  It is easy to register time characteristics for any type of circuit breakers , but special sensors are required to obtain stroke and speed characteristics.

Incremental (discrete) type sensors are supplied together with the PKV/M7 device for measuring speed characteristics and stroke parameters. They do not require adjustment or customization of conversion factors. Moreover, the sensors are accurate and easy to use.

For example, devices with cable-type sensors have a limit on the upper speed value. The return spring does not have time to wind the cable onto the drum with rapid changes in speed. The inaccuracy of measurement increases. The use of laser displacement sensors is not advisable because of the danger of eye damage from the laser beam during rough handling. In addition, the installation of the laser sensor is made approximately without clamps. This leads to a high inaccuracy of the measurements.

For measuring speed and stroke parameters high accuracy of measurements of time characteristics (±0.1 ms), travel and speed characteristics is ensured with digital angular and linear movement pickups with resolution in 0,09° and 0.5 mm.

Often used in other devices (analogs of the PKV/M7 device) sensors based on a potentiometer even under normal conditions have a large (up to ± 1%) inaccuracy. For example, with a maximum stroke of 900 mm, such an inaccuracy gives an uncertainty of ± 9 mm.

The diagnostic results ar­e displayed in a table with measured and calculated parameters for each cycle operation (when processing measurement resul­ts for complex cycles, the device automatically breaks down the cycle into sim­ple operations). The tables provide such data as: 

  • Stroke parameters (full stroke, stroke to contact closure, stroke, difference of responses along the course, bounce along the course, flight, rebound); 

  • Time parameters (total time of circuit breaker closing, proper time of circuit breaker closing and pole turning on time); 

  • Speed ​​parameters (speed when turned on, contact timing different times and time bounce).

Apart from tables with measured parameters, more detailed information on breaker status can be derived from registrable graphs that are navigated using cursors and scaling.

The instrument registers:

  • dependence of spe­ed on time and travel;

  • dependence of currents and voltages of electromagnets on time and travel;

  • diagrams of clo­sing/opening processes of the contacts.

The type of graphs is determined by the state of all links (levers, springs, rods, axles, traverses, dampers, etc.) of the kinematic chain of the mechanism that controls the closing-opening of the circuit breakers contacts. And the occurrence of a malfunction in at least one of the links (increase in play, loosening of the spring, increased friction, failure of the damper, etc.) changes the form of the graph from the normal form of a working switch immediately. It allows using the in-place method to identify its current or incipient malfunctions at an early stage.

 

Equipped with a power switchboard to control drives of switching devices, both DC and AC, and enables to perform both simple operations and complex cycles, including life tests.

PKV / M7 is an independent device for diagnostics and data analysis, which does not require third-party equipment.

All settings, calculations and graphics are on a graphic b/w LCD display (320x240).

If you have to carry out diagnostics in difficult weather conditions you can be sure that PKV/M7 will provide you with the most accurate results as it operates properly in the temperature range from -20 to +40°С.

    Our Company consisting of a group of companies successfully operates the PKV/M7 (5 devices) and PKV/M6N (1 device) analyzers manufactured by SKB EP, LLC. Quality of their operation is beyond criticism.  Our group includes such companies as Closed Joint-Stock Company ZETO (the City of Velikie Luki), Open Joint-Stock Company ZETO SMP North-West, and LIK-94, LLC.

    OJSC ZETO SMP North-West is a company supervising installation and adjustment of VGT-110 and VGT-220 circuit breakers (of CJSC ZETO manufacture). The Company has a long-term experience of operating the PKV/M7 and PKV/M6N analyzers.

    Testing the VGT-110 and VGT-220 circuit breakers using PKV/M7 analyzers is the most precise method of controlling the correctness of the HV circuit breaker installation, and their availability.

    After a long period of using the PKV/M6N analyzer the production divisions of OJSC ZETO SMP North-West changed over to PKV/M7 analyzers.  All the specialists noted advantages of PKV/M7 over PKV/M6N: reduction in size and weight; availability of intuitively clear interface, better quality of assembly, and protection from mechanical impact.

    Branch of OJSC Network Company, Elabuga Electric Networks, Substations Unit

    On June 1-2, 2017 a two-day tutorial on Control of High-Voltage Switchgears and Transformers Using SKB EP Analyzers was held in the branch of OJSC Network Company, Kazan Electric Networks. It was intended for repairmen and electricians of the Network Company.

    During the tutorial a course of lectures was delivered on operating the analyzers of PKV group; training was held on the circuit breaker of VMT-110 type with the PPrK-1400 drive. Tutorial quality was rather high.  Knowledge gained at the tutorial and during practical training was applied when using the PKV/M7 analyzer.

    I should like to note the following merits of the device:

    • Maximum measurement time of up to 5.2s allows measurement of time characteristics of circuit breakers, as well as those of earthing and disconnecting switches;
    • Availability of a function for the contact state check prior to measurements;
    • Protection of a switchgear circuit against fault close-in;
    • An option of remote start-up against voltage occurrence in the actuating/tripping  coil;
    • High accuracy of measurements.


    The PKV/M7 device can be recommended for procurement to owners of high-voltage equipment to measure equipment performances.

    Moscow Branch of Centratomtechenergo JSC Atomtechenergo

    In the period between 20.03.2016 and 20.05.2016 specialist of the laboratory of electric measurements of the Moscow Branch of Centratomtechenergo of JSC  Atomtechenergo used the PKV/M7 analyzer for HV circuit breaker control during commissioning of SF6 circuit breakers.

    The PKV/M7 was connected to a circuit breaker via grounding blades that at the moment of measurements were disconnected from the earthing device. The PKV/M7 merits and demerits identified in the course of works.

    The PKV/M7 merits include:

    • Maximum measurement time of 5.2 s allows measurement of time characteristics of circuit breakers, as well as those of earthing and disconnecting devices;
    • Availability of contact state check function prior to measurements;
    • Protection of a switchgear against fault close-in;
    • An option of a remote start-up against voltage occurrence in the On/Off coil;
    • High accuracy of measurements. 


    The PKV/M7 drawbacks:

    • A small number of cursors for determining the duration of transient processes (only two are available). [Manufacturer’s comment:  Previous users never mentioned this as a drawback. This is rather subjective].
