PKV/М7 is designed for measuring characteristics of SF6, oil, magnetic-type and vacuum high-voltage circuit breaker of all types and manufactures (such as ABB, AREVA, ALSTOM, SIEMENS etc.), and of isolators and short-circuiting devices.

Additionally, PKV / M7 allows you to register instantaneous values of currents and voltages of control electromagnets.

PKV/M7 instrument is complete with attachment devices for the installation of measuring transducers on all types of Russian and foreign-manufactured (ABB, AREVA, ALSTOM, SIEMENS, etc.) high-voltage circuit breakers.

Adaptability of the instrument involves designing of transducer attachments to the circuit breakers and receiving of transfer function of movement from the shaft to the cross-arm. Transfer functions of kinematic chains of all circuit breakers are stored in the memory of the instrument. Adaptation work began with the first produced model of the instrument (PKV/М1) in 1995 and continues to this day.

For example, in similar devices, a shorter time range does not allow testing circuit breakers in complex cycles.

There are many nuances when taking measurements on circuit breakers. It is easy to register time characteristics for any type of circuit breakers, but special sensors are required to obtain stroke and speed characteristics.

Incremental (discrete) type sensors are supplied together with the PKV/M7 device for measuring speed characteristics and stroke parameters. They do not require adjustment or customization of conversion factors. Moreover, the sensors are accurate and easy to use.

For example, devices with cable-type sensors have a limit on the upper-speed value. The return spring does not have time to wind the cable onto the drum with rapid changes in speed. The inaccuracy of measurement increases. The use of laser displacement sensors is not advisable because of the danger of eye damage from the laser beam during rough handling. In addition, the installation of the laser sensor is made approximately without clamps. This leads to a high inaccuracy of the measurements.

For measuring speed and stroke parameters high accuracy of measurements of time characteristics (±0.1 ms), travel and speed characteristics is ensured with digital angular and linear movement pickups with resolution in 0,09° and 0.5 mm.

Often used in other devices (analogs of the PKV/M7 device) sensors based on a potentiometer even under normal conditions have a large (up to ± 1%) inaccuracy. For example, with a maximum stroke of 900 mm, such an inaccuracy gives an uncertainty of ± 9 mm.

The diagnostic results are displayed in a table with measured and calculated parameters for each cycle operation (when processing measurement results for complex cycles, the device automatically breaks down the cycle into simple operations). The tables provide such data as:

  • Stroke parameters (full stroke, stroke to contact closure, stroke, difference of responses along the course, bounce along the course, flight, rebound);
  • Time parameters (total time of circuit breaker closing, proper time of circuit breaker closing and pole turning on time);
  • Speed parameters (speed when turned on, contact timing different times and time bounce).

Apart from tables with measured parameters, more detailed information on breaker status can be derived from registrable graphs that are navigated using cursors and scaling.

The instrument registers:

  • dependence of speed on time and travel;
  • dependence of currents and voltages of electromagnets on time and travel;
  • diagrams of closing/opening processes of the contacts.

The type of graphs is determined by the state of all links (levers, springs, rods, axles, traverses, dampers, etc.) of the kinematic chain of the mechanism that controls the closing-opening of the circuit breakers contacts. And the occurrence of a malfunction in at least one of the links (increase in play, loosening of the spring, increased friction, failure of the damper, etc.) changes the form of the graph from the normal form of a working switch immediately. It allows using the in-place method to identify its current or incipient malfunctions at an early stage.

Equipped with a power switchboard to control drives of switching devices, both DC and AC, and enables to perform both simple operations and complex cycles, including life tests.

PKV/M7 is an independent device for diagnostics and data analysis, which does not require third-party equipment.

All settings, calculations and graphics are on a graphic b/w LCD display (320x240).

If you have to carry out diagnostics in difficult weather conditions you can be sure that PKV/M7 will provide you with the most accurate results as it operates properly in the temperature range from -20 to +40°С.

    ActiveEnergo, LLC

    ActiveEnergo, LLC employees started to work with PKV/M7 circuit breaker analyzer in 2018. During its operation, PKV/M7 proved to be a good device for monitoring the main parameters of high-voltage circuit breakers. It is convenient that you can process measurement results on a PC and generate protocols. Equally important is the presence of an in-built switchboard, that allows to operate the circuit breaker, and to set compound cycles. The device is built into a very comfortable and robust case. One more advantage of PKV/M7 analyzer is the light weight of the device.

    We would like the test cables of the device to be completed with wire spools and / or special cases.

    [Manufacturer note]: The question of adding special cases or spools for teh cables to the standard or additional complete set of the device was previously raised in the production department of our company, now we have test samples of spools at our disposal. We can discuss the terms of their provision on an individual basis.

    It would also be great, if it is possible to add to the device the functionality of measuring the characteristics of the circuit breaker at the minimum voltage of closing / opening electromagnets or to describe this function in the methodological material, if it has already been implemented.

    [Manufacturer note]: An ability to check the characteristics of the circuit breaker at low voltage is not implemented in the PKV-group devices. And when these changes are made, the device will increase in size and weight. Among the devices of our production there is a PUV-regulator, with that you can perform measurements at low voltage in conjunction with the PKV/M7 circuit breaker analyzer.

    Considering the above, we would like to recommend PKV/M7 circuit breaker analyzer to be used at power facilities.

    ZETO SMP Siberia, LLC

    In 2018, our company purchased PKV/M7 circuit breaker analyzer. The use of this device allows our specialists to assess the condition of the circuit breakers without opening them. This opportunity significantly reduces the labor costs of the repair personnel. We consider graphs such an interesting and useful feature for equipment diagnostics because they can show hidden faults. We also would like to point out the possibility of operating the device autonomously, with subsequent results processing on the computer. One more positive point in use is the color indication and the different structure of the connectors of each cable, as well as the robust case of the device

    Among the disadvantages, we would like to mention the absence of the possibility to get measurement procedure in an electronic form that increases the time spent for developing the procedure of circuit breaker diagnostics.

    [Manufacturer note]: Our company always stands for active cooperation with the companies that are envolved in the release of new switching equipment. Our technical engineers are often invited to report tests of high-voltage circuit breakers at manufacturers' testing facilities, to supervised installation at measurement objects, as well as to repair actions. We look forward to working with you! We are ready to take an active part in the development of new measurement procedures, as well as in the manufacture and testing of new fixing devices and measurement templates.

    In addition, a disadvantage is the size of the crocodiles using which it is not always convenient to connect to the contacts on the terminal panel.

    [Manufacturer note]: If you have a need to use a unique cable, we are ready to fulfill such need in accordance with your technical specification.

    We can recommend this device to all companies that operate circuit breakers, as well as to mobile laboratories that run circuit breaker diagnostics.

    Review to PKV/M7 circuit breaker analyzer
    In 2019, our company purchased PKV/M7 device. After studying the User Manual that is competently compiled by the specialists of SKB EP, LLC, the engineers of Capital-Stroy Diagnostics, LLC started to run measurements on 110 kV circuit breakers. It is worth noting that VGT-110 SF6 circuit breakers have different design features depending on the manufacturer, however, this was not reflected in the measurement circuit assembly instructions.

    PKV/M7 device has shown its best. It provides enough information to determine the technical condition of the circuit breakers, has a convenient interface and is easy to operate.

    In particular, we would like to note the good work of the technical support service of SKB EP, LLC that promptly helps to deal with issues that might arose.

    We recommend PKV/M7 device to the companies that are involved in operating and diagnostics of high-voltage circuit breakers.

    Review to MIKO-9A milliohmmeter
    In 2019, our company purchased MIKO-9A device to measure ohm resistances of 110 kV power transformers. After studying the device documentation and carrying out reference measurements (reference resistance is included into device complete set) engineers of Capital-Stroy Diagnostics, LLC started working with MIKO-9A milliohmmeter. Significant advantages and minor disadvantages were revealed while working with MIKO-9A on 110 kV power transformers, in comparison with other similar devices.

    Among the advantages, it is worth noting high accuracy of the measurements, large battery capacity, and most importantly, transformer demagnetization function. This feature reduces the time spent on measurements and reduces bulky equipment amount that we had to use previously. User-friendly interface, an ability to connect the cables to all three phases simultaneously, and an ability to run measurements with an automatic switch between the windings by the device itself significantly reduce total operating time and simplify the measurement process.

    One of the disadvantages is a long time of windings saturation, despite 10 Amps test current that is supplied to the windings by the device. With each tap switch of the OLTC the device saturates the winding for quite a long time.

    [Manufacturer comment]: To check winding resistance of the power transformer with an OLTC it is highly recommended to use Manual measurement mode.
    Before measurement start you have to set OLTC to the first or to the last tap, and then start the measurement. Device will magnetize the winding and show resistance value. Then, without measurement stop, you need to switch OLTC to the next tap, and the device will almost immediately display the next resistance value. You must also indicate on the device display that this is the next tap. This method will significantly reduce total measurement time. After resistance measurement on all phases and taps, it is necessary to save the results. All values will be displayed in the archive of this object.
