PKV/M7 is designed for monitoring time, travel, and speed parameters of moving parts of oil, vacuum, SF6, and magnetic-type circuit breakers of all types, as well as for monitoring time parameters of isolators and short-circuiting switches.

Additionally, PKV/M7 allows you to register instant values ​​of currents and voltages of control solenoid.

PKV/M7 instrument is complete with attachment devices for the installation of measuring transducers on all types of high-voltage circuit breakers (ABB, AREVA, ALSTOM, SIEMENS, Susol, etc.).

Adaptability of the instrument involves designing of transducer attachments to the circuit breakers and receiving of transfer function of movement from the shaft to the cross-arm. Transfer functions of kinematic chains of all circuit breakers are stored in the memory of the instrument. Adaptation work began with the first produced model of the instrument (PKV/М1) in 1995 and continues to this day.

For example, in similar devices, a shorter time range does not allow testing circuit breakers in complex cycles.

There are a lot of nuances when taking measurements on circuit breakers. It is easy to register time parameters for any type of circuit breakers, but special transducers are required to obtain travel and speed characteristics.

Incremental (discrete) type transducers are supplied together with the PKV/M7 device for measuring speed characteristics and travel parameters. They do not require adjustment or customization of conversion factors. Moreover, the transducers are accurate and easy to use.

For example, devices with cable-type transducers have a limit on the upper-speed value. The return spring does not have time to wind the cable onto the drum with rapid changes in speed. The measurement error increases. The use of laser movement transducers is not advisable because of the danger of eye damage from the laser beam during rough handling. In addition, the installation of the laser transducer is made approximately and without clamps. This leads to a high error of the measurements.

For measuring speed and travel parameters, high accuracy of measurements of time parameters (±0.1 ms), travel and speed characteristics is ensured with incremental (discrete) angular and linear movement transducers with a resolution of 0.09° and 0.5 mm.

Transducers that are often used in other devices (analogues of PKV/M7 device) are based on a potentiometer. And even under normal conditions they have a large error (up to ±1%). For example, with a maximum travel of 900 mm, such an error gives an uncertainty of ± 9 mm.

The diagnostic results ar­e displayed in a table with measured and calculated parameters for each cycle operation (when processing measurement results for complex cycles, the device automatically breaks down the cycle into sim­ple operations). The tables provide such data as:

  • Travel parameters (full travel, travel to pole contacts closure, penetration, difference of operation in travel, bouncing in travel, overshot, rebound);
  • Time parameters (circuit breaker make time, circuit breaker closing time, pole closing time);
  • Speed ​​parameters (closing speed, time difference of contacts action, bouncing in time).

Apart from tables with measured parameters, more detailed information on circuit breaker status can be derived from recorded graphs that are navigated using cursors and scaling.

The instrument registers:

  • dependence of spe­ed on time and travel;
  • dependence of currents and voltages of electromagnets on time and travel;
  • diagrams of clo­sing / opening processes of the contacts.

The type of graphs is determined by the state of all links (levers, springs, rods, axes, traverses, dampers, etc.) of the kinematic chain of the mechanism that controls the closing / opening of the circuit breaker contacts. And the occurrence of a malfunction in at least one of the links (increase in play, loosening of the spring, increased friction, failure of the damper, etc.) changes the form of the graph from the normal form of a working circuit breaker immediately. It allows to identify its current or incipient malfunctions at an early stage by using a non-demountable method.

PKV/M7 is equipped with a power control module to control drives of switching devices both DC and AC, and enables to perform both simple operations and complex cycles, including life tests.

PKV/M7 is an independent device for diagnostic and data analysis, which does not require third-party equipment.

All settings, calculations and graphics can be performed on a graphic b/w LCD display (320 x 240 pixels).

If you have to carry out diagnostic in difficult weather conditions you can be sure that PKV/M7 will provide you with the most accurate results as it operates properly in the temperature range from -15°С to +40°С.

    Currently two instruments are operated by the Electrical repair production of Severstal, PJSC: HV circuit breaker analyzers PKV/U3.0 and PKV/M7. According to practical evaluation, PKV/M7 is more convenient to operate than PKV/U3.0.

    These instruments we use for high-voltage circuit breakers from 6 to 220 kV.

    As for convenient functions, we need to mention the possibility of measuring angular movement and converting to linear. For example, speaking about one of the last cases, an increased contact time difference between the phases of VGBU-220 HV circuit breaker was revealed.

    Economic effect calculations of using these instruments have not been carried out by our company.

    Taking into account the operating experience of PKV/M7, we can definitely recommend it for use.

    The electrical laboratory of Vorkutinskaya TPP-2 Vorkutinskiye TPP, LLC T Plus, PJSC has in its instrumental and technical base the following devices manufactured by SKB EP, LLC:

    With the help of micro-ohmmeters, electrical laboratory personnel measures DC resistance of contact connections, and PKV/M5N and PKV/M7 devices are actively used to measure the speed and time parameters of circuit breakers of 6, 35 and 110 kV voltage classes.

    Micro-ohmmeters are convenient to use due to their autonomy and mobility. PKV/M5N device, despite its long service life, is relevant during the diagnostic of high-voltage circuit breakers (due to the presence of linear and angular movement transducers in the complete set), but, due to moral aging and replacement with new analogues, the device cannot be supplemented with new components. The new PKV/M7 device is supplemented with all the necessary spare parts, is modern, mobile, accurate and, based on this, is more in demand by electrical laboratory specialists.
