MIKO-22 – new development by SKB EP: a micro-ohmmeter with extended functionality

SKB EP presents MIKO-22 – a modern micro-ohmmeter for measuring contact resistance in the range from 0.1 μΩ to 2 Ω at a test current of 200 A with an accuracy of ±0.05%. The instrument is based on the time-tested MIKO-21, with significantly expanded features.

The key highlight of MIKO-22 is two new measurement methods:

  • Diagnostics using the DG (Dual Grounding) method make it possible to measure circuit breaker contact resistance without removing the grounding connection from either side – especially valuable when working on equipment grounded on both sides for personnel safety. An additional measurement channel with current clamps registers the current flowing through the parallel conductive path, and the instrument automatically accounts for this data in its calculation – accuracy is not compromised even in complex grounding schemes.
  • Diagnostics using the DCRM (Dynamic Contact Resistance Measurement) method provide a dynamic picture of contact resistance – the condition of the main and arcing contacts can be assessed without disassembly, by recording resistance changes during the circuit breaker opening operation.
Built-in circuit breaker drive control simplifies DCRM measurements without the need for additional equipment, while linear and angular displacement measurement (1–900 mm linear range, 0.09–360° angular range) makes it possible to monitor the breaker's mechanical parameters and evaluate the remaining arcing contact length at the same time.

MIKO-22 offers three measurement start-up modes – Single, Periodic, and Periodic Circuit – making it easy to adapt the process to a specific task. For circuit breakers equipped with current transformers (CTs), dedicated modes are available – CT Eco Mode (approximately 30 seconds, minimal power consumption) and CT Max Mode (approximately 15 seconds, maximum accuracy at 100 A or 200 A).

The instrument takes part of the control off the operator's hands: users can set rejection limits, and if a reading falls outside the set range, MIKO-22 highlights the measurement result in the corresponding color – red or green.

The battery provides long operating time: the built-in 100 Wh battery ensures long operating time, and the removable battery unit can be replaced by the user once its service life ends – without contacting the manufacturer's service center.

Currently under development: dedicated PC software that will allow users to control the instrument and transfer measurement results via USB.
