Practical training for the specialists of the East Siberian Railways

At the beginning of December SKB EP organized a practical training for the specialists of East Siberian Railways. The training was organized together with Terra Impex, that is an official SKB EP agent. Our specialist gave an introduction to control and diagnostics of high-voltage electromechanic equipment with SKB EP instruments.

Within the training all the SKB EP instruments were represented, but particular emphasis was made on PKV/M7 high-voltage circuit breaker analyzer, MIKO-9 milliohmmeter and MIKO-10 microohmmeter due to the last procurement of East Siberian Railways.

The specialists wanted to figure out all the features and benefits of working with following instruments and to study how to run measurements and read their results. Also training participants wanted to get individual advice from the manufacturer representative.

SKB EP specialist gave an introduction on MIKO-2.3 micromillikiloohmmeter use. This instrument is a small portable laboratory, that enables to perform all tasks connected with resistance measurement in electric equipment as this instrument operates in four modes: microohmmeter, milliohmmeter, kiloohmmeter and thermometer. The participants were impressed by MIKO-2.3 because of its wide functionality, small dimensions and large test current up to 1000 A in microohmmeter mode.

Even though the specialists of East Siberian Railways haven't worked a lot with SKB EP instruments, they have already formed their opinion. Here is what one of the company's representatives said:

"There is no doubt, that PKV/M7 high-voltage circuit breaker analyzer has the best functional features and is technically convenient to be used at circuit breakers of all types [Manufacturer's note: We recommend you to use PKV/U3.1 at air-blast circuit breakers]. This is the best known instrument for different purposes, and the most important advantage is high quality at an affordable price, which distinguishes PKV/M7 from analogues."

Technical specialists noted that MIKO-9 has a wide resistance range from 10 µΩ up to 30 kΩ and an ability to measure electric resistance in different modes, both in inductive and non-inductive circuits. Furthermore, the instrument has several distinctive functional features:

  • Opportunity to connect to three transformer phases simultaneously and to measure resistance with automatic switch;
  • AUTO demagnetization mode;
  • Heat run test;
  • OLTC in-place check mode (DRM test), etc.

Specialists appreciated portability and convenience of MIKO-10 use. The instrument can be fixed on the wrist by special belts leaving both hands free to facilitate measuring process. Resistance range is 1 ÷ 100 000 µΩ. Rated current is 10 A.

We are grateful to Terra Impex, for the opportunity of direct communication with East Siberian Railways specialists.
